IRA’s

An Individual Retirement Arrangement (IRA) is a form of retirement plan that provides tax advantages for retirement savings in the United States. The term encompasses an individual retirement account – a trust or custodial account set up for the exclusive benefit of taxpayers or their beneficiaries – and an individual retirement annuity, by which the taxpayers purchase an annuity contract or an endowment contract from a life insurance company.

SEPS’s

A SEP is a simplified employee pension plan. A SEP plan provides employers with a simplified method to make contributions toward their employees’ retirement and, if self-employed, their own retirement. Contributions are made directly to an Individual Retirement Account or Annuity (IRA) set up for each employee (a SEP-IRA).

Annuities

An annuity contract is created when an insured party, usually an individual, pays a life insurance company a single premium that will later be distributed back to the insured party over time. Annuity contracts traditionally provide a guaranteed distribution of income over time, until the death of the person or persons named in the contract or until a final date, whichever comes first. However, the majority of modern annuity customers use annuities only to accumulate funds free of income and capital gains taxes and to later take lump-sum withdrawals without using the guaranteed-income-for-life feature.

Life Insurance

Life insurance is a contract between an insurance policy holder and an insurer, where the insurer promises to pay a designated beneficiary a sum of money (the “benefits”) upon the death of the insured person. Depending on the contract, other events such as terminal illness or critical illness may also trigger payment. The policy holder typically pays a premium, either regularly or as a lump sum. Other expenses (such as funeral expenses) are also sometimes included in the premium. The advantage for the policy owner is “peace of mind”, in knowing that the death of the insured person will not result in financial hardship for loved ones.

Health Insurance

A type of insurance coverage that pays for medical and surgical expenses that are incurred by the insured. Health insurance can either reimburse the insured for expenses incurred from illness or injury or pay the care provider directly. Health insurance is often included in employer benefit packages as a means of enticing quality employees.

AFLAC

Aflac Connection—The cost of health insurance premiums is deductible to the payer, and benefits received are tax-free. Health insurance has many cousins, such as disability insurance , critical (catastrophic) illness insurance and long-term care (LTC) insurance.
